The Power List Frazer Thompson, Chief Executive, Chapel Down Group

How important is it to disrupt the sector?

The world is awash with choice in every consumer sector. But it’s not really choice without real points of difference. And luxury is full hubris about simply “being the best”. Whatever that means. What’s the best watch? Best handbag? At Chapel Down we have always aspired to be the only people who can do what we do. It forces us to challenge the status quo, offer a genuine point of difference that makes us unique and gets consumers excited. By doing that we can change things. And disruption is just change that forces others to re-assess and re-define. So disruption keeps things healthy and vibrant.

What fuels your energy and ambition?

My ambition is to go to bed every night just a little bit less stupid than I was when I woke. I am curious about almost everything. But I am very lucky to be able to be fearless and relentless in the pursuit of change because of the amazing team of people around me who’s talent makes me feel constantly humble.
