The Walpole Power List 2020 | The Taste-Makers: Mats Klinberg, Founder, Trunk Clothiers

Mats Klingberg launched the impeccably edited menswear brand Trunk Clothiers in 2010, and just a year later was named a Walpole Brand of Tomorrow. In today’s Taste-Maker profile – in association with Investec – meet Mats, who tells us why he believes he was named on this year’s Power List, and why staying true to your vision for your brand is more important than ever.

Mats Klingberg launched Trunk Clothiers in 2010 with a background in the fashion and financial services industries. After graduating from business school in Sweden, combined with fashion studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.) in New York, Klingberg worked at Sweden’s iconic department store Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) and then for Giorgio Armani in Stockholm before embarking on a career in financial services in various marketing and communication roles. With American Express in London, Matts was globally responsible for the marketing of several global luxury retail and travel brands.

What does it mean to you to be named a Walpole 2020 Power List winner?

I feel very honoured and humbled, and at the same time very thankful to all the people around me that inspire and enable me to be my very best every day. I wouldn’t be in this position if it wasn’t for them.

Why do you think you were named on the List this year?

It’s been an interesting year to say the least and it’s been incredible to see the resilience, creativity and speed that companies have had to adopt to stay in business. My focus has been on all the things that we can control, which is to offer a tight edit of clothes from around the world with a clear point of view, matched with excellent customer service – no matter how and where our customers interact with us, so maybe that has something to do with it?
