The Walpole Power List 2020 The Custodians: Lucy Thornton, Head of Marketing, Innovation & Sustainability, JING Tea

Lucy Thornton entered the luxury marketing world in 2008 joining superyacht brokerage, Burgess. Following four exciting years in the superyacht industry Lucy followed her taste buds to single garden tea brand JING, where she now drives the marketing, innovation & sustainability strategy. During lockdown Lucy completed the Business Sustainability Management course from the University of Cambridge – reaffirming Sustainability at the forefront of JING’s agenda. As part of the JING team Lucy is on a mission to ensure that tea producers and their environments thrive long into the future, whilst consumers enjoy a more fulfilling cup of tea.

What does it mean to you to be named a Walpole 2020 Power List winner?

I’m delighted to be named a Walpole 2020 Power List winner, to be part of a network of passionate individuals who are pursuing excellence and positive change in their fields. To collaborate and support each other through celebrating success within this network is highly motivating.

Why do you think you were named on the List this year?

Walpole is actively championing Sustainability within British Luxury, with the launch of their Sustainability Manifesto and ongoing Sustainability Working Group. As part of this group I am committed to sharing experience and progress, supporting other members where I can and to identifying potential areas for shared action. I believe my selection reflects Walpole’s strong commitment to being a driving force behind a sustainable future for British Luxury.

Sustainability is a key focus for Walpole during 2020: we unveiled our British Luxury Sustainability Manifesto in January, and our Working Groups bring together 50 of Walpole's members - all of whom are Signatories of the Manifesto - to discuss how we can become a world leader in sustainability.
