Walpole comment | The General Election

The view from the Walpole office is usually an inspiring one. Today, Friday 9th June, we are pondering what the result of yesterday’s General Election means for our industry.

A hung parliament presents a challenging situation for the British luxury sector, as for British business overall, in that the crucial Brexit negotiations cannot take place until the government is settled, yet the EU is unlikely to be willing to delay. It may bring the welcome prospect of a softer Brexit but the immediate impact is, of course, a great deal of uncertainty.

However, whatever the outcome, we will continue to work with government to further the interests of our members whose value to the UK economy is a significant £32.2 billion.

We will update you with updates on what this means for the British luxury industry as and when the situation becomes clearer.
