21 Days of Christmas Celebrate with... Richard Brendon

How will you be celebrating Christmas this year?

I’ll be in Iceland with my fiancée and her family. We’ll be spending Christmas Day at the Ion Adventure Hotel enjoying new Nordic cuisine at Silfra Restaurant, before heading out to (hopefully) spot the Northern Lights.

What gift are you hoping to receive in your stocking?

A Big Green Egg ceramic barbecue - I’m definitely going to need a big stocking for that! I’m also hoping for a bottle of Last Drop Distiller’s 1870 Old Colheita Tawny Port, after tasting it at our Jancis Robinson collection launch party in New York earlier this year.

What is your favourite/family Christmas tradition?

The Christmas Eve drinks party at my Dad’s - I’m making him do it earlier this year so I don’t miss out! There’s always plenty of sparkling wine flowing - this year we’ve stocked up on Kit’s Coty Coeur de Cuvée from Chapel Down.

Favourite festive film and song?

As a kid I loved watching Home Alone every Christmas, and still get excited when I spot it listed in the TV guide each year. When it comes to festive music, Elvis Presley’s Blue Christmas will usually get me humming along.

Best place to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere?

You can’t beat Jermyn Street in central London. I was there for the turning on of the Christmas lights this year and there was so much to see and do along the street - you could even enjoy a glass of Nyetimber from their beautiful 1968 Routemaster bus!

Top tip for surviving the festive season in style?

Never underestimate the amount of cheese you’re going to need! We get ours from La Fromagerie on Moxom Street and always buy lots of Montgomery's Cheddar and Stichelton blue cheese.
