Cowdray

The quintessential English estate of Cowdray has had a strong relationship with the US for many years, driven by its association with polo as well as the founding family's links with New York City. Why is the US and New York such an important market for your brand?

Cowdray has had strong links with the US for decades, traditionally it was the game of polo that united us, as well as the founding family member’s engineering link with New York through the construction of one of the tunnels under the Hudson River.  As the Estate evolves with a focus on sustainability, wellbeing and the environment, Walpole provides Cowdray with the perfect modern link to our exceptional pocket of countryside in the heart of the South Downs, enjoyed for years by visitors from the US and now ready for the next generation.

What is your key aim / what are you hoping to achieve by participating in the Walpole Trade Delegation?

Whether it is business or pleasure, discretion or celebration, Cowdray will accommodate guests in luxury surroundings where service is the key focus.  Every stay at Cowdray House is bespoke and guests are encouraged to make the house their own. Our aim is to welcome new visitors to experience the quintessential English experience at Cowdray for themselves.

What will you be showcasing during the trip?

Primarily Cowdray House, an exclusive use 22 bedroom luxury venue and former family home.  Filled with history and heirlooms, the fascinating ancestral home offers 110 acres of private garden, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a tennis court, bowling alley and even its own polo field.  For guests wanting to explore further, the Estate is home to ‘Sussex’s Food Shop of the Year 2019’, a Championship Golf Course,  award-winning Clay Shooting School, Wellness centre, international polo, a Tudor ruin, country sports and some of the most beautiful countryside in the south of England.

What is the one thing you’d like the US customer to know about your brand?

Cowdray has something for everyone from the quintessential English experience through the retreats and wellbeing, to mixing with the society circuit at high octane international polo.  Come and explore the 16,500 acres of beautiful countryside, just over an hour from London.
